Change Windows domain TD-CSF account password

How do I change my password on TD-CSF Windows Domain? (Holds for HelpDesk/CSWiFi/MSDN/Printing)

The Current Password Policy on TD-CSF is described below:

  1. Minimum Password length: 8 char.
  2. Complexity. Minimum requirements:
  • Not contain the user’s account name or parts of the user’s full name that exceed two consecutive characters.
  • Password contains characters from three of the following four categories:
  • English uppercase characters (A through Z)
  • English lowercase characters (a through z)
  • Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
  • Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)
  • Complexity requirements are enforced when passwords are changed or created.

You can check your password with The Password Meter

How-to change your password from a computer that belongs to the td-csf faculty group:

  • Make sure you are logged in to Domain TD-CSF and not locally.
  • Press Ctrl Alt Del and press the “change password” button.

Using your Exchange account with a browser from anywhere (You must have an Exchange mailbox at CS faculty):

  • You must have an Exchange mailbox at CS faculty.
  • Login to your Exchange account at  and at “options” select “Change your Password”.

Using  a browser from inside the Technion:

How-to change password from a computer that is NOT in the td-csf faculty group:

  • Login with ssh to CSA or CSM LINUX faculty servers.
  • Invoke this command:  /usr/bin/smbpasswd  -r  csf
  • Enter your old TD-CSF Domain password, set your new password according to the password policy, and re-type to confirm.
  • If the new password  was approved by the Domain Controller you will get this message: Password changed for user  YOUR-USERNAME
